Arlen Specter represents everything that is wrong with the Republican party. A classic "country club" Republican, Spectar has been notorious for siding with liberals nearly as often as he votes with his own party. Specter was particularly uncomfortable when the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress, finding himself often at odds with party leaders, much preferring the obscurity of being in the minority

Specter's positions as a Republican are appalling. He has a history of supporting liberal causes both socially and economically. In 2006 co-sponsored the amnesty bill for illegal aliens that was thankfully stalemated in the Senate. He voted against tort reform and was the only Senator who voted for tax cut limits in 1995. He has voted for every increase in the minimum wage since entering the Senate. Although he claims to support the flat tax, he has never attempted to introduce a bill or advance a position that might make it a reality. In typical Specter fashion, it is a safe position because it will never come to a vote.

Not surprisingly, Specter is more popular with democrats in Pennsylvania than Republicans. His refusal to viforously prosecute Bill Clinton for perjury in the impeachment trial of 1999. In fact, Specter was responsible for entering a "not proven" verdict in the Clinton matter.

In the world of conservative politics, there has been no development more frustrating than the emergence of a new hybrid politician called “The Republicrat.”

The Republicrat is a middle of the road, poll driven, media creation that labels himself a Republican in the hope of attracting the conservative vote, but embraces many liberal concepts so as to appease his “friends” on the left.

In many ways, the Republicrat is much more sinister than his liberal colleague. The liberal at least has the conviction of his beliefs and rarely attempts to disguise his true socialist motives. On the other hand, the Republicrat is often deliberately deceitful, recognizing that if they can pull a slight of hand that persuades voters they are conservative while still fulfilling their commitment to large, pork-ridden government, they will experience support from both sides.

The Republicrat is an expert at smoke and mirrors government, claiming for example to be fiscally conservative yet spending every dime from the social security trust fund and running up huge deficits.
